The selection process for representatives to compete at the national level competitions for QLD is as follows:
- Open Dog of the Year: The representative for QLD is chosen based on the performance and achievements of the previous year’s Open Dog of the Year. The dog that holds this title is selected to represent QLD at the national competitions.
- Highest Qualifying QLD Dog and Handler: The highest qualifying dog and handler from the previous QLD Championship also earn the opportunity to represent QLD at the national level competitions.
Once the representatives are determined using these criteria, they qualify for respective championships:
- Utility Championship: This championship takes place annually in Nyngan, NSW, typically in August.
- Australian Yard Dog Championship: This championship rotates to a different state each year.
- In 2025, QLD will host this prestigious event.
Overall, these selection criteria ensure that talented dogs and handlers have the opportunity to represent QLD at the national level competitions and showcase their skills in both the Utility Championship and the Australian Yard Dog Championship.
Rules pertaining to the selection process can be found in the Competiion Rules under section 24
